This is Best Time to Buy Gold! Check the Analysis

The best time to buy gold is not a particular day, hour, or month. It is a question of price position: how far the price is from its peak, where it sits inside its one-year range, and how far it is from its average.
On 2 November 2026 at 10:04 WIB (Western Indonesia Time), the digital gold token XAUt was at US$3,887.5, about 29.6% below its January closing peak and only 0.3% above its lowest close of the past year. This article explains how to read that position yourself, why a low price is not necessarily the bottom, and how to buy in stages so you do not have to guess the lowest point.
Key Takeaways
- The calendar is not the answer. In 2026 XAUt rose 11.0% in January, fell 12.0% in March, rose 10.1% in August, and fell 6.6% in October. There is no day or month to memorize.
- Price position is more useful. Three measures: distance from the peak, position within the 52-week range, and distance from the 200-day average. You can calculate all three yourself.
- On 2 November 2026 all three point down. XAUt was 29.6% below its closing peak, in the bottom 0.7% of its 52-week range, and 9.6% below its 200-day average.
- Cheap is not necessarily the bottom. After falling about 28% in 2013, gold fell about another 12% by the end of 2015. The price is also still about 2.2% below where it was a year ago.
- Buy in stages, do not guess. Splitting your money across several purchases reduces the risk of picking the wrong time to enter. It does not reduce market risk.
Why the Question "When" Often Points the Wrong Way
Many people look for an answer in the form of a day, hour, or month. The data does not support patterns like that. Over the last 90 days, the gap between the highest and lowest price within a single day for XAUt had a median of about 1.4% (Kraken daily candles). Monthly moves are far larger, so choosing morning or afternoon barely changes your result compared with whether you buy near a peak or near a low.
Months do not give a pattern either. One year is not enough to prove whether seasonal patterns exist, but it is enough to show that the calendar does not answer your question:
| Month in 2026 | XAUt change |
|---|---|
| January | +11.0% |
| February | +10.6% |
| March | -12.0% |
| April | -1.1% |
| May | -2.0% |
| June | -11.5% |
| July | +1.0% |
| August | +10.1% |
| September | -6.5% |
| October | -6.6% |
Source: Kraken daily XAUT/USD candles (UTC), from the open of the first day to the close of the last day of each month. Mobee calculations.
Our article on why gold prices rise and fall reaches the same conclusion: no seasonal pattern can be relied on, so it is more useful to watch the drivers than the calendar. Here we take a different approach. Instead of guessing when the price will move, we assess where the price is now.
Three Measures of Price Position
None of these measures predicts anything. They answer one question: is the current price high or low compared with its own history?
| Measure | How to calculate | How to read it |
|---|---|---|
| Distance from the peak | (current price divided by peak) minus 1 | The more negative, the further from the peak. A 29.6% fall means a rise of about 42.1% is needed to get back to the peak, because the base changes. |
| Position within the 52-week range | (price minus low) divided by (high minus low) | 0% means at the one-year low, 100% means at the one-year high. |
| Distance from the 200-day average | Price divided by the average daily close of the last 200 days, minus 1 | Below zero means the price is lower than its average of roughly the past seven months. |
There is no standard threshold that declares a price "cheap" or "expensive". Treat these as relative signposts, and read them together rather than one at a time.
Where Gold Stands Now: 2 November 2026
Here are the calculations for XAUt, a token that tracks the world gold price, using Kraken daily closes for the last 366 days. The latest price of US$3,887.5 was read on 2 November 2026 at 10:04 WIB.
| Measure | Result | How to read it |
|---|---|---|
| Closing peak (28 January 2026) | US$5,523.4 | Current price is 29.6% below it |
| 52-week range (closes) | US$3,875.9 (31 October) to US$5,523.4 | Price is in the bottom 0.7% of the range |
| Daily closes lower than today in the past year | 2 of 366 days (30 and 31 October) | Almost every day in the past year closed higher |
| 50-day average | US$4,152.9 | Price is 6.4% below it |
| 100-day average | US$4,249.1 | Price is 8.5% below it |
| 200-day average | US$4,301.8 | Price is 9.6% below it |
By all three measures, gold is in a low zone compared with its one-year history. This is what many people mean when they say gold is "a good price to buy in installments". But the word "low" always needs a comparison, and the answer changes with what you compare against:
| Compared with | Price | Difference from now |
|---|---|---|
| Closing peak (28 January 2026) | US$5,523.4 | -29.6% |
| 2025 year-end close | US$4,318.2 | -10.0% |
| One year ago (2 November 2025) | US$3,976.0 | -2.2% |
| 2024 year-end close | US$2,624.5 | +48.1% |
Source: Kraken for the current price, peak, and one year ago. 2024 and 2025 year-end closes come from the table in gold prices year by year. Mobee calculations.
So gold is very low compared with the January peak, but almost the same as a year ago, and still far above two years ago. Someone who bought gold a year ago is now around break-even, slightly negative, not sitting on a large gain. That matters for keeping your expectations realistic.
Cheap Is Not Necessarily the Bottom
A low price position answers "is it far from the peak", not "has it stopped falling". The data offers two reminders.
Reminder one: 2013 to 2015. Gold's year-end close fell from US$1,664 in 2012 to US$1,201.5 in 2013, about 28%. Someone who judged gold cheap at the end of 2013 watched it fall about another 12%, to US$1,060.2 at the end of 2015. A year-end close did not get back above the 2012 level until 2020 (US$1,895.1). Details are in gold prices year by year.
Reminder two: a zone that once held the price. Between 30 June and 1 August 2026, XAUt touched the zone of about US$3,920 to US$3,975 several times (Kraken daily lows) and bounced. In August the price rose 10.1%. But on 30 October that zone broke and the price closed at US$3,878.5. Both facts can be read together: that zone was once where buyers stepped in, and that zone is not holding the price for now. XAUT volume on Kraken is thin, so daily moves there can be more extreme than in the spot gold market.
The latest pressure, according to several sources, is expectations of a Federal Reserve rate hike and strong US economic data. Gold pays no yield, so higher rates make holding it less attractive. Details are in today's digital gold price.
How to Buy When the Price Is Low Without Guessing the Bottom
If price position is low and you take a long-term view, a common approach is to buy in stages. The goal is not to get the lowest price but to make sure one bad decision does not determine your entire result. The basic principle is covered in dollar cost averaging.
1. Set aside money you will not need soon, and decide how much goes to gold. Treat gold as one part of a portfolio. How to weigh it is covered in how to choose assets.
2. Split it into several stages. For example, Rp10 million split into four stages of Rp2.5 million. At the XAUT/IDR price on Mobee of Rp70,571,156 per troy ounce (read on 2 November 2026 at 10:05 WIB), one Rp2.5 million stage equals about 0.0354 troy ounce, or about 1.10 grams of gold. This figure changes constantly with price and exchange rate. If you are used to Indonesian units such as mayam or suku, see the conversion table for 1 emas.
3. Choose the trigger for each stage, then lock it in. It can be time-based (for example every two to four weeks) or price-based (for example every 5% drop). Decide now, not when prices are moving wildly and emotions are running high. A price-based trigger can be set with a limit order (the difference from a market order is covered in limit order vs market order).
4. Set a limit. Decide when you stop adding and how long you are willing to hold. The 2013 to 2020 recovery shows that gold can take years, not weeks.
Illustration 1: Six Months of Installments
Suppose you bought US$1,000 of XAUt on the 1st of each month, from 1 May to 1 October 2026 (six purchases, Kraken daily closing prices). The result as of 2 November 2026 (US$3,887.5):
| Approach | Capital | Average price | Value now | Result |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Six installments (1 May to 1 October) | US$6,000 | US$4,263 | US$5,471 | -8.8% |
| Lump sum on 1 May (US$4,603.1) | US$6,000 | US$4,603 | US$5,067 | -15.5% |
| Lump sum on 1 October (US$4,182.6) | US$6,000 | US$4,183 | US$5,577 | -7.1% |
Installments did better than a lump sum in early May, and worse than a lump sum in early October. No one knew beforehand which date was best, and all three lost money over this period. Installments reduce the damage of mistiming. They do not guarantee a profit. Recurring purchases can also be run with Auto Invest on Mobee; check the guide to see whether your chosen asset is supported.
Illustration 2: Three Hypothetical Price Paths
The numbers below are invented to show how the arithmetic works, not forecasts. Imagine four equal purchase stages, with the first at US$3,887.5.
| Price path | Prices at stages 1 to 4 | Average price of installments | Installment result at final price | Result if you bought everything at stage 1 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Keeps falling | US$3,887.5, 3,700, 3,500, 3,300 | US$3,583 | -7.9% | -15.1% |
| Flat | US$3,887.5, 3,890, 3,890, 3,890 | US$3,889 | 0.0% | 0.0% |
| Rises | US$3,887.5, 4,000, 4,200, 4,400 | US$4,113 | +7.0% | +13.2% |
If the price keeps falling, installments make your loss smaller. If the price rises, installments make your gain smaller. That is the price of not having to guess.
When Waiting Makes More Sense
A low price position is not a reason to buy if your situation is not ready. Consider waiting or buying less if:
- You need the money soon. Gold can fall further and take a long time to recover.
- You are buying only out of fear of missing out. A price that is "cheap" compared with the peak is a weak reason if you have no plan for stages and limits. If the urge feels strong, read how to avoid FOMO first.
- Your gold allocation is already large. Adding at a low price still adds concentration in a single asset. How to weigh assets is covered in how to choose assets.
If you are still weighing gold against other assets as a hedge, read Bitcoin vs gold and inflation and purchasing power to understand the role of each.
Digital Gold or Physical Gold: Timing Matters Differently
With physical gold, the gap between the buying price and the buyback price determines how much your entry timing matters. According to Kontan (2 November 2026, 08:51 WIB), 1 gram of Antam gold was priced at Rp2,531,000 with a buyback price of Rp2,286,000. The gap is Rp245,000, or about 9.7% of the buying price, so the price must rise about 10.7% just to get you back to break-even if you sell again. For the short term, that is a big hurdle. See physical vs digital gold investment.
With digital gold such as XAUt, the price follows the world gold price in US dollars, so the rupiah exchange rate affects the price you pay. On 2 November 2026, the XAUT/IDR price of Rp70,571,156 and the XAUt price of US$3,887.5 imply an exchange rate of about Rp18,150 per dollar. Crypto markets are open 24 hours, so you do not depend on a gold shop's opening hours. How the token works is explained in how XAUt works, and its risks and how to buy it are in what is XAUt. Conclusion
The best time to buy gold cannot be found on a calendar. What you can assess is price position: on 2 November 2026, XAUt was 29.6% below its closing peak, in the bottom 0.7% of its one-year range, and 9.6% below its 200-day average. That shows a price that is low relative to its history, but it is not a guarantee that the bottom has formed. A safer approach is to buy in stages with money you will not need soon, with the schedule and limits set from the start, and with the realistic expectation that gold can fall further before it rises.

FAQ
When is the best time to buy gold?
No day, hour, or month has been shown to be best. What you can assess is price position: distance from the peak, position within the 52-week range, and distance from the 200-day average. After that, buy in stages so you do not have to guess the lowest point. Why prices move is covered in why gold prices rise and fall.
Is now a good time to buy gold?
On 2 November 2026, XAUt was about 29.6% below its closing peak and near its lowest level of the past year, so the price is relatively low. But no one can guarantee it will not fall further, and the price is still about 2.2% below a year ago. The decision depends on your goals, time horizon, and risk tolerance.
Which month does gold usually fall?
No month can be relied on. In 2026, XAUt fell in March, June, September, and October, but also rose sharply in January, February, and August. Patterns like this are not consistent from year to year. The drivers are covered in why gold prices rise and fall.
Is it better to buy gold when the price is falling or rising?
Buying when the price is below its average and far from its peak is commonly seen as more favorable, but a falling price can keep falling. That is why many people split purchases into several stages instead of waiting for one point they consider the best.
Which day is best to buy gold?
No day has been shown to be best. The gap between the high and low within a single day for XAUt had a median of about 1.4% over the last 90 days, far smaller than monthly moves that can reach 6% to 12%. Price position matters more than the name of the day.
How many installments should I make?
There is no standard number. The examples in this article use four to six stages. What matters is that you set the number of stages, the amount, and the trigger at the start, then follow through consistently. The principle is covered in dollar cost averaging.
Will the gold price rise again?
No one can be sure. Over the long term gold tends to rise, but the path can include declines lasting years, such as 2013 to 2015. The factors behind it are covered in why gold prices rise and fall, and daily developments are in today's digital gold price. Analyst forecasts are discussed in gold price prediction.
