On Wednesday, November 4, Bitcoin rose about 4.0% after the midterm election results and briefly touched US$81,179.6, the highest since October 29. On Thursday, November 5, the direction reversed: Bitcoin fell about 5.5% from open to close, with a low of US$75,100.0 and a close of US$75,979.9, lower than every daily close in this table. The October 30 low (US$76,155.5) was also briefly broken. Today Bitcoin is trading in a narrow range between US$75,783.8 and US$76,300.7. Other sources recorded this week's low slightly differently (crypto.news wrote US$75,736), possibly because of different reference exchanges.
Why Bitcoin Fell: Stocks, Liquidations, and Confidence
US stocks. According to CNBC Indonesia and Investor.id, US stocks fell sharply on Thursday: the Nasdaq Composite about 5.5%, the S&P 500 about 4.3% (the largest since April 2025), and the Dow Jones about 3.4%. The semiconductor index fell about 12%, with Nvidia about 9% and AMD about 17%, and Coinbase shares fell about 10.6% (crypto.news). Other sources recorded smaller index drops (crypto.news wrote Nasdaq about 4.7% and S&P about 3.5%), so the exact figures differ between sources. The reasons cited include concern about scrutiny of the AI and data center sector after Democrats led in Congress, a reversal of the post-election rally that was partly driven by short covering, and very low US jobless claims, which reinforce expectations of high interest rates.
Liquidations. CoinGlass (via crypto.news, November 5 at 19:02 UTC) recorded about US$1.08 billion in liquidations over 24 hours: US$954.38 million in long positions (88.2%) and US$127.30 million in short positions, involving 210,326 traders. Bitcoin accounted for about US$280.65 million (about 89% of it longs) and Ethereum about US$174.86 million. Investor.id called it the largest since October 28 to 29, when Bitcoin fell from nearly US$82,000 to US$76,000. On Wednesday, by contrast, about US$378 million in short positions were liquidated in one hour (Crypto.com), so part of Wednesday's gain came from short covering, not new demand.
Confidence. CNBC Indonesia named the Binance hack of October 29 as a drag on confidence, not the only cause. All of the causes above are the sources' explanations, not proven cause and effect, and we cannot separate how much each contributed.
ETF Flows: Large Outflows Before the Election, Flat Afterward
| Period | US spot Bitcoin ETFs | Source |
|---|---|---|
| October 30 to November 3 (three sessions) | -US$1.16 billion | CNBC Indonesia |
| November 4 | +US$74.6 million (FBTC +US$236.7 million, IBIT -US$201.2 million) | crypto.news |
| November 5 | no data yet | - |
The October 30 to November 3 figure is a three-session total. We could not open Farside or SoSoValue for November 5, so this table relies on two media outlets and has not been checked against a fund flow data provider.
Outflows of about US$1.16 billion over the three sessions before the election are among the larger ones in recent weeks, and on the first day of the recovery (November 4) only about US$74.6 million flowed back in, with FBTC and IBIT moving in opposite directions. Fund flows are better read as context, not a single signal. How to do that is covered in how to analyze crypto.
Macro: Jobs Data Today, the Fed on December 8 to 9
On November 4 to 5, the US dollar weakened (the dollar index was about 101.5 on November 4, its lowest level in more than a month) and the US 10-year Treasury yield fell five basis points to about 4.89% on November 4 (figures from our midterm election summary). That usually helps risk assets, but on Thursday the stock selloff dominated. How the dollar, interest rates, and risk assets relate is explained in the US dollar.
The market is still pricing the chance of a rate hike at the Fed meeting on December 8 to 9. According to the sources we read, the odds range from about 66% to 83% depending on source and timing (CME FedWatch via Bareksa and Seoul Economic Daily recorded 82.7%, Liputan6 recorded 66%, InvestorTrust 70.9%), and we have not checked directly with CME. Today the US jobs report (NFP) is released. According to an independent metals trader quoted by Liputan6, strong data would likely reinforce expectations of a December hike, which generally weighs on risk assets. That is one party's view, not our forecast.
Technical Levels to Watch
On the upside, the nearest resistance levels are today's high of US$76,300 (about 0.38%), US$77,000 (about 1.30%), the November 3 close of US$77,332 (about 1.74%), US$78,000 (about 2.62%, the upper edge of the range CNBC Indonesia cited), US$80,000 (about 5.25%), the 20-day average of US$80,139 (about 5.43%, crypto.news), and US$81,000 to US$82,000 (about 6.56% to 7.88%). Levels that flip roles are covered in support and resistance.
On the downside, the nearest support levels are today's low of US$75,784 (about 0.30% below), Thursday's low of US$75,100 (about 1.20%), the round number US$75,000 (about 1.33%, cited by CNBC Indonesia and Whyitmoved as an important area), and US$70,000 (about 7.91%, cited by CNBC Indonesia as the risk if US$75,000 to US$76,000 does not hold). According to crypto.news, the lower Bollinger band is around US$76,059, just above the current price.
As long as the price stays below US$77,000, any recovery remains technical, and a daily close below US$75,000 would signal more pressure than an intraday move. Conversely, as long as US$75,100 is not broken, Thursday's sweep can still be read as a temporary low. This is a reference, not a forecast or price target.
Agenda for Today and Next Week
According to the sources we read and public calendars (schedules can change): Friday, November 6, the US jobs report (NFP), with the release time best checked on an economic calendar (in the evening WIB according to our sources). December 8 to 9, the Fed meeting. Oil prices and developments in the Iran conflict can also still move markets, as they did earlier this week.
Ahead of important data, revisit your exit strategy and position size. Understanding types of orders in trading also helps when handling sudden moves around release times.
Conclusion
The Bitcoin price today has fallen to about US$76,011 after Thursday erased Wednesday's gain. Bitcoin closed at US$75,979.9, liquidations reached about US$1.08 billion, and US stocks fell sharply.
Two things stand out. First, US$75,000 to US$75,100 is the area to hold, while US$77,000 to US$78,000 is the nearest resistance. Second, in three days Bitcoin moved from US$75,625 to US$81,180 and back to US$75,100, so today's NFP data and the December Fed meeting could move the price quickly again.
For long-term investors, a few days of movement like this is better seen as part of the journey than as a signal. Keeping the composition of your crypto portfolio balanced usually matters more to the final outcome than guessing price direction day to day. The full weekly review is in crypto news this week.
