Cerebras Stock (CBRS) After the IPO: Business and Risks

The company builds AI processors from a single whole silicon wafer and holds US$25.4 billion in contracted revenue not yet recognized (RPO). This article walks through Cerebras's business, financials, valuation, lock-up schedule, and risks, based on the Mobee Research report as of October 15, 2026, plus the latest closing price.
Key Takeaways
- Cerebras makes AI processors built on a single whole silicon wafer (the Wafer-Scale Engine) and sells them both as hardware systems and as cloud capacity for inference, which means running AI models that have already been trained.
- RPO reached US$25.4 billion as of June 30, 2026, about 37 times trailing 12-month revenue, with a large share coming from the 750 MW capacity agreement with OpenAI.
- The stock has fallen sharply since the IPO. The October 16, 2026 close of US$127.21 is about 31% below the US$185 IPO price and about 67% below the intraday high of US$386.34.
- Customers are still concentrated. G42 accounted for 85% of 2024 revenue, and the risk has now shifted to OpenAI, which can terminate part or all of its agreement if capacity targets are not met.
- The Mobee Research model produces a very wide range of values: US$73.02 to US$350.24 per share on the EV/Sales method, and US$5.86 to US$143.10 on the discounted cash flow (DCF) method.
- The lock-up expires in stages starting October 28, 2026. About 171 million shares could enter the market, compared with an IPO free float of 34.5 million shares.
What Is Cerebras, and How Did the Cerebras IPO Go?
Cerebras was founded in 2015 by Andrew Feldman (now CEO and Chairman) together with four former members of the SeaMicro team. The company has been listed on Nasdaq since May 14, 2026. The IPO sold 30 million shares at US$185 and raised US$5.55 billion in gross proceeds. The stock opened far above the IPO price and then fell.

Its main product is the Wafer-Scale Engine, a processor that uses one whole silicon wafer with memory integrated on the same chip. Cerebras claims inference on this chip is much faster than on GPUs, but that claim has not been independently verified. Its main competitor is NVIDIA, along with inference chips built by the hyperscalers.
Cerebras earns revenue from two sources: sales of hardware systems, which are recognized on delivery and so tend to be lumpy, and recurring cloud services.

After the IPO, the balance sheet strengthened to US$7.00 billion in net cash as of June 30, 2026, equal to roughly US$29.48 per share. One governance point: Class B shareholders hold 20 votes per share and control about 95% of voting power, so public shareholders cannot steer the company's strategy through votes.
The OpenAI Contract and Capacity Build-Out
In December 2025, Cerebras signed a master relationship agreement (MRA) with OpenAI for 750 MW of capacity over three to four years, with an option to add up to 1.25 GW. About 22% of the US$25.4 billion RPO is scheduled to be recognized within 24 months through June 2028. Management targets more than 600 MW of capacity by the end of 2027 and 2027 revenue of more than three times 2026.
In its Base scenario, Mobee Research projects revenue-generating capacity of 95 MW at the end of 2026, 390 MW in 2027, and 650 MW in 2028. These megawatt figures are Mobee Research assumptions, because the company does not disclose active capacity in detail.
Financial Performance: Revenue Surges, Margins Fell First
GAAP revenue rose from US$290.3 million in 2024 to US$510.0 million in 2025. The 2026 estimate follows the midpoint of management guidance, while 2027 and 2028 are Mobee Research estimates.

|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| GAAP revenue | 290.3 | 510.0 | 776.2 | 2,522.5 | 5,063.7 |

| Free cash flow | not disclosed | -393 | -1,801 | -1,625 | 165 |
2024 and 2025 data come from the audited IPO prospectus. Margins in the core rows are the company's non-GAAP measures (before amortization of customer warrants, pass-through costs, and stock-based compensation). Free cash flow is operating cash flow minus cash capex. 2024 growth is calculated from 2023 revenue of US$78.7 million. Sources: Cerebras 424B4 prospectus and Q2 2026 10-Q, Mobee Research model.
Three things in this table need careful reading.
- Net income for 2024 and 2025 does not reflect the underlying business. The figures are dominated by fair value changes on forward contracts (a loss of US$401.3 million in 2024 and a gain of US$363.3 million in 2025).
- GAAP revenue is lower than core revenue. The value of stock warrants granted to customers such as OpenAI and AWS is booked as a reduction of revenue through 2031.
- The 2026 net loss is expected to widen because of stock-based compensation recognized at the IPO (US$377.0 million in Q2 2026 alone).
Core gross margin itself fell from 46.5% in Q1 2026 to 40.6% in Q2 2026. Management guides to 38% to 40% for Q3, partly because leaseback systems weigh on margin by about 500 basis points. Company-owned systems are expected to start arriving in Q4 2026, and management's long-term target is a gross margin above 60%.
Core gross margin: down first, target up later
Source: Cerebras Q2 2026 release, earnings call transcript, Mobee Research report.
In its Base scenario, Mobee Research estimates a core gross margin of 50.0% and a core operating margin of 28.8% in 2028. Base return on invested capital (ROIC) in 2035 is projected at 29.0%, above the cost of capital (WACC) of 14.39%. However, free cash flow is still expected to be negative through 2027, and 71.7% of the Base DCF value comes from terminal value, meaning value beyond the projection period.
Customer Concentration: The Risk Has Shifted, Not Disappeared
G42 of Abu Dhabi accounted for 85% of 2024 revenue. In 2025, MBZUAI and G42, two related parties, together accounted for 86%. In the first half of 2026 their share fell to about 59% as OpenAI began contributing, and six contracts worth more than US$30 million each were signed in Q2 2026.
Share of revenue from two Abu Dhabi customers
The risk is shifting to a new key customer, OpenAI. Source: IPO prospectus, 10-Q, Mobee Research report.
But the concentration has not gone away. It has simply moved to a new anchor customer. OpenAI can terminate part or all of the MRA if capacity or service-level targets are not met. In addition, OpenAI's US$918.2 million working capital loan can be accelerated under certain conditions.
Competition and the Product Cycle
Cerebras competes with NVIDIA and with chips built by the hyperscalers. According to the Mobee Research report, the stock pulled back after a SemiAnalysis report on September 30, 2026 said that the fastest mode of OpenAI's model runs on NVIDIA GPUs, and after Microsoft announced its Maia 300 inference chip on October 12, 2026.
On the product side, hardware revenue fell 51.1% from Q1 to Q2 2026, and the company recorded an inventory write-down of US$11.8 million amid the transition to a new generation. CS-4 systems ship starting in Q3 2026. Integration with AWS Bedrock is scheduled for Q1 2027, with AWS revenue expected to start around mid-2027, while CS-5 is planned to launch in the second half of 2027.
Cerebras Stock Valuation: Between Neoclouds and AI Chip Makers
Cerebras has two faces. It sells chips and systems like NVIDIA, AMD, Broadcom, and Marvell, but it also rents out compute capacity like the neoclouds CoreWeave and Nebius. The market values these two groups differently: the median next-fiscal-year EV/revenue for AI chip makers is 12.2x, while the neocloud average is 5.8x.
| Company | Price (US$) | Market cap (US$ billions) | EV / trailing 12-month revenue | EV / next fiscal year revenue |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| NVIDIA (NVDA) | 221.30 | 5,340.0 | 17.6x | 9.9x |
| AMD (AMD) | 570.82 | 931.9 | 22.4x | 13.7x |
| Broadcom (AVGO) | 346.25 | 1,650.0 | 19.0x | 10.8x |
| Marvell (MRVL) | 245.28 | 215.1 | 22.9x | 13.8x |
| CoreWeave (CRWV) | 65.78 | 36.3 | 10.8x | 4.2x |
| Nebius (NBIS) | 186.01 | 51.0 | 39.2x | 7.4x |
| AI chip median | 20.7x | 12.2x | ||
| Neocloud average | 25.0x | 5.8x | ||
| Cerebras (CBRS) | 141.48 | 33.6 | 39.1x | 10.5x |
Source: StockAnalysis (accessed October 15, 2026). Next-fiscal-year EV/revenue for the peers is calculated from the vendor's Forward P/S multiplied by EV per market cap. Cerebras uses the Mobee Research basis (EV excluding leases, with 2027E Base GAAP revenue as the denominator) because the vendor's forward figures do not match consensus. The CoreWeave price in the table is the October 14 close.
On a next-year revenue basis, Cerebras sits between the two groups (10.5x). On a trailing 12-month revenue basis, its multiple is 39.1x, almost twice the AI chip maker median, because revenue is expected to more than triple the following year.
EV to next fiscal year revenue
On trailing 12-month revenue, Cerebras is 39.1x vs the AI chip median of 20.7x. Source: StockAnalysis, Mobee Research model.
Mobee Research uses the neocloud multiple of 5.8x for its Bear scenario, the current multiple of 10.5x for Base, and the AI chip median of 12.2x for Bull.
For an external comparison, the consensus compiled by StockAnalysis (S&P Global data, updated October 5, 2026) lists 11 analysts, made up of 8 Strong Buy and 3 Buy ratings, with price targets ranging from US$209 to US$330. Keep in mind that most of these analysts work at banks that underwrote the Cerebras IPO, so this consensus is not a fully independent view.
| Measure | Market consensus | Mobee Research model |
|---|---|---|
| 2026 core revenue | US$887.1 million | US$886.9 million |
| 2027 revenue | US$2.95 billion | US$2.67 billion (core) |
Management guidance for 2026 core revenue is US$880 million to US$890 million. Consensus comes from an aggregate data provider, not from the research of individual brokerages. The Mobee Research model is not calibrated to consensus.
Three Scenarios From the Mobee Research Model
Mobee Research models three scenarios, weighted 25% Bear, 50% Base, and 25% Bull. Base gets the largest weight because 2026 is already guided by management and RPO covers part of 2027 revenue. These weights are an analyst judgment, not the result of a statistical calculation.
| Scenario | Weight | 2028 revenue-generating capacity | Core gross margin | EV/Sales multiple | Value per share (12-month EV/Sales) | Value per share (DCF) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bear | 25% | 400 MW | 38.1% | 5.8x | US$73.02 | US$5.86 |
| Base | 50% | 650 MW | 50.0% | 10.5x | US$208.21 | US$53.46 |
| Bull | 25% | 950 MW | 58.5% | 12.2x | US$350.24 | US$143.10 |
Bear assumes a delayed capacity ramp and the market valuing Cerebras like a neocloud. Bull assumes the OpenAI options and new customers materialize, margins approach management's target, and the stock re-rates to the AI chip median. The EV/Sales method multiplies the 2028 GAAP revenue estimate by the target multiple, then adds June 2027 net cash. Source: Mobee Research model.

A few points to note from this model:
- The two methods give very different results. The Base DCF value (US$53.46) is far below the Base EV/Sales value (US$208.21), mainly because free cash flow only rises significantly after 2030 and the WACC used is high (14.39%). Mobee Research does not average the two methods.
- The market price implies high conviction. At the October 14 close (US$141.48), the market is equivalent to Bull cash flows at the model's WACC, or Base cash flows at a discount rate of 7.58% (an implied beta of 0.58, compared with the model's assumption of 2.25).
- The results are sensitive. Each 1x of EV/Sales is worth about US$18.23 per share on the 12-month Base value. If the multiple falls by 2x, the Base value becomes US$171.75, and if 2028 revenue comes in 20% below projection, the Base value becomes US$169.93.
Mobee Research also explicitly includes a tail risk: an 8% probability within 12 months that the OpenAI MRA is terminated or cut back, with a residual equity value of 35%.
Technical Analysis and Latest Price
On the daily chart as of October 15, 2026, CBRS broke below the US$160 to US$170 support area, which had been a consolidation zone since June 2026, on rising volume. Stochastic RSI readings of 2.45 and 5.05 point to oversold conditions, but MACD is still negative (the MACD line at -12.61 is below the signal line at -8.29), which suggests bearish momentum is still strong. The US$160 to US$170 area now acts as resistance.
Update as of October 19, 2026: on Friday, October 16, CBRS closed at US$127.21 (down 10.52%), its lowest close since the IPO, on volume of 11.7 million shares and a daily range of US$126.05 to US$137.88. After the close, the price was US$126.51. That close was below the previous intraday low (US$139.91) recorded in the report.

Catalysts, Schedule, and Risks to Watch
Here are a few relevant dates to keep an eye on:
| When | Event |
|---|---|
| October 28, 2026 | Staggered lock-up release is expected to be completed. |
| November 9 or 10, 2026 | Latest date for the release of all remaining shares (or two trading days after Q3 results are announced). About 171 million shares could enter the market, compared with an IPO free float of 34.5 million shares. |
| November 2026 | Q3 2026 results. The official date has not been set; data providers estimate around November 19. Guidance: core revenue of US$214 million to US$216 million, core gross margin of 38% to 40%. |
| Q4 2026 | Company-owned systems start arriving, which could affect gross margin. |
| Q1 to mid-2027 | AWS Bedrock integration (Q1 2027), with AWS revenue starting around mid-2027. |
| Second half of 2027 | CS-5 launch planned. |
The end of the lock-up can reduce uncertainty about potential selling pressure, but it does not guarantee that selling pressure ends right away. Sources: Mobee Research report, IPO prospectus.
| Catalyst | Explanation |
|---|---|
| Q3 2026 results | The trend in gross margin and whether OpenAI's capacity ramp stays on schedule are the main factors that could change the projections. |
| Customer diversification | AWS Bedrock integration and additional enterprise contracts could reduce reliance on OpenAI and on customers in Abu Dhabi. This is one of the main differences between the Base and Bull scenarios. |
| Multiple re-rating | A return to the AI chip median of 12.2x on Base revenue equals about US$239.20 per share on a 12-month value under the model. |
| Lock-up expiry | Reduces uncertainty about how many shares early holders can sell. |
| Risk | Explanation |
|---|---|
| OpenAI MRA terminated or reduced | In the Bear scenario, the model's 12-month value falls to US$73.02. OpenAI can terminate part or all of the agreement if capacity or service targets are not met. |
| Competition and technology | NVIDIA, hyperscaler inference chips such as Maia 300, and customers that build their own chips could pressure pricing and market share. The speed-advantage claims have not been independently validated, and very large AI models may require spreading the workload across many systems. |
| Dependence on the multiple | The model's weighted DCF value is far below the market price, and the price has already fallen about 67% from its high in five months without major changes to management guidance. |
| Governance and dilution | Class B controls about 95% of voting power. According to the Mobee Research report, the CEO and CTO sold shares worth about US$243 million from August 20 to September 25, 2026, and potential dilution from options, RSUs, and warrants is estimated at 76 million shares, or about 32% of shares outstanding. |

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Cerebras?
Cerebras Systems is a company that builds AI processors from a single whole silicon wafer (the Wafer-Scale Engine) and sells them both as hardware systems and as cloud capacity for AI inference. It was founded in 2015 by Andrew Feldman and has been listed on Nasdaq under the ticker CBRS since May 14, 2026.
When was the Cerebras IPO and at what price?
Cerebras went public on Nasdaq on May 14, 2026 at US$185 per share. The IPO sold 30 million shares and raised US$5.55 billion in gross proceeds. The stock closed at US$311.07 on its first day, then fell to US$127.21 at the October 16, 2026 close.
Why did Cerebras stock fall?
According to the Mobee Research report, the pressure came from a SemiAnalysis report on September 30, 2026 saying the fastest mode of OpenAI's model runs on NVIDIA GPUs, Microsoft's announcement of its Maia 300 inference chip on October 12, a decline in gross margin, and concerns about the lock-up. The stock broke below support at US$160 to US$170 and closed at US$127.21 on October 16, 2026.
What is a lock-up, and why does it matter for CBRS stock?
A lock-up is a period after an IPO during which early shareholders are barred from selling their shares. For CBRS, the staggered release is expected to be completed on October 28, 2026, and all remaining shares are released no later than November 9 or 10, 2026. About 171 million shares could enter the market, compared with an IPO free float of 34.5 million shares.
Who is Cerebras's biggest customer?
G42 accounted for 85% of 2024 revenue, and MBZUAI together with G42 accounted for 86% in 2025. In the first half of 2026 that share fell to about 59% as OpenAI began contributing through the 750 MW capacity agreement.
Is Cerebras profitable?
Not on an operating basis. Net income of US$237.8 million in 2025 came mainly from fair value changes on forward contracts, not operating performance, and the Mobee Research estimate for 2026 is a GAAP net loss of US$779.0 million. Core operating margin in 2025 was -18.8%.
Can I trade CBRS on Mobee?
Mobee offers a tokenized Cerebras stock (CBRS) issued by Ondo whose price tracks the actual stock, subject to certain terms and restrictions. The token is not the share itself. Check the terms and access restrictions in the Mobee app before trading.
Conclusion
Cerebras is an IPO stock with a strong growth story on paper, with US$25.4 billion in RPO, net cash of about US$29.48 per share, and revenue expected to more than triple in 2027. But the price has already fallen about 31% below the IPO price, customers are still concentrated in OpenAI, gross margin is declining, and the expiring lock-up could increase the number of shares in circulation. The Mobee Research model shows the value is highly sensitive: US$73.02 to US$350.24 per share on EV/Sales and US$5.86 to US$143.10 on DCF.
What to watch next is the lock-up expiry on October 28 and November 9 to 10, Q3 2026 results around mid-November, and news on OpenAI capacity. Always check the date and source of the data before making a decision.
